Iris update
She has started putting 2 words together now. Yesterday, when she realized we were pulling into her school, she yelled, "YAY, SCHOOL!" She will say, "Help Please," while using her please sign language. I have GOT to get that on video. She has also learned how to boss Stogey around by saying, "No, Stodey!" She hasn't quite figured out the "G" sound yet. Her teacher was telling me yesterday how she was telling one of the boy's in Iris' class, "No, Jett, we don't do that," when Iris chimed in saying... "No, No! while shaking her pointer finger at him in a z formation all sassy like! Her teacher said she thought at any moment Iris was going to snap him out! Lol!

Iris' new milestones
1. When asked by her daddy during a skype call if she had to go potty, she feverishly ran to the bathroom door. I put her on the potty and she went Poopy! For real, I know this was just luck and it may not happen again for a long while, but she was so proud! Of course, we were too. I didn't realize how funny it would be to see her on the potty and so focused. A 15 month old on the potty is pretty hysterical. Her little legs barely dangled over the seat. Now, when I ask her if she has to go potty, she runs the restroom, she sits on there for all of one sec, gets down, and looks in to see if there is anything left behind! It really cracks me up.
2. She has officially learned the word booby and knows exactly where they are located on her body. I'm afraid this might make for an awkward situation one day. Lol!
3. She can call Stogey by name and she loves to boss him around.
4. She is such a little helper. She loves to find minuscule pieces of paper on the floor just to throw them away.
5. She decided that dad was to be called Poppy and not Pops.
6. She is a little "Jetson" baby. She thinks anytime she is on the phone she should be able to see the person that she is speaking to. I mean really.
7. She has become quite the artist. She has impressed her teachers at school with her painting, crayon, and chalk abilities. I'm such a proud Momma when I look at her works of art.
8. She has learned how to use a spoon and fork. She seems very proud of herself while using the same.
9. She laughs when she passes gas.
10. She has learned how to fake cry, but cracks up when you call her out by fake crying back at her.

The Name Iris Rose...
I was just thinking about how difficult is was to come up with our baby girls name. I don't think I ever posted how we finally got there. The entire year before she was born we read baby name books, researched the internet, and asked around. It was the most difficult decision of our lives to date. I mean, what you name your child sticks with them for life! This was a heavy weight to carry. We had not even decided on her name as I was going into labor. We had written lists upon lists of options, but were never quite sure. I even dropped the main list of names that D.J. and I had been working on for so long behind our couch. I couldn't get my big ole' pregnant self to move our heavy couch to get it out. And I tried! I tried broom sticks and all kinds of things to get to that list with no luck. We had spent so much time working on that list throughout the baseball season that I finally said to heck with writing lists for the rest of my pregnancy. We really had no idea what our daughters name would be, but I always felt like it would come to us after we looked into her eyes for the first time. During labor, I'm pushing with all of my might with no idea what I'm about to experience as our baby enters the world. I promise you, as soon as she took her first breath, her name was laid upon my heart straight from heaven. That is exactly how it felt. I wasn't even thinking about that. It just appeared. I thought Iris Rose. It just popped in my head like that and I felt peace and pure joy. It was a very dreamlike experience. D.J. and I had talked about those two names, but had no idea that is what we would name her. We had trouble deciding if we could actually give her two flower names, but decided that it just fit her perfectly. It seems even more fitting when we found out that Iris was the Greek goddess that carried messages from heaven to earth. The same way her name came to me the day she entered our world.
The first day we arrived home from the hospital the movie "The Holiday" was on. I had never even noticed that Kate Winslet's character's name was Iris. When I heard it out loud on t.v. it was so surreal. My baby's name is Iris. :) Then, a couple of months later we moved to our home. The couch was finally moved and the list that I had created with D.J. so long ago was found. I couldn't believe what I saw when I looked at the list of names. The name Iris was at the very top! It was the first name listed! The odd thing is... is that the page was so full of names there were no more lines to fit the name Iris... sooo... I had written it at the very top of the page! All I could do was smile when I saw that. Life is so funny!

Lemon Lollipop Kid
Out of all the yummy candy I had I thought the Lemon Lollipop would be the least favorite. Well, not to this kid. Awesome.
Iris' first Trick or Treat Halloween
Iris loved trick or treating tonight. Every time someone opened their door she just walked right on in. Sarah and Gary's house was by far the best. I know Mom got some photos that I will upload later. They had it completely decorated, but Iris was drawn to the cauldron filled with full size candy bars. I turned around and all I could see was her skirt way up in the air while standing on her tippie toes. The top half of her body was completely bent over into the cauldron. Then, she started dumping her fun size candy into the cauldron and trading them in for full size bars. It was really cute. I think she figured out this Trick or Treat thing is pretty fab!

Pony Ride
When she looks to the left...she is looking at the pony beside us. She was so serious about this ride. She loved it!
Gentry Farm, Rolfsen Party, and Maplewood Fall Festival
Iris had such a fun filled weekend. It started off at the Gentry Farm to pick some pumpkins. Unfortunately, the rain took out the patch so we couldn't actually "pick" our pumpkin, but we had a blast anyway! Iris explored teepee's, little log houses, barns, went through the hay maze, saw chickens, goats, sheep, cows (including a calf born the night before), saw a 200 year old home, went on a tractor ride, had her first wipeout, and more. She loved every second.
That night we got dressed up in our costumes and heading to the Rolfsen house for an awesome Halloween/ Birthday Party. We spent the night so I could have some "no kids allowed" fun while she slept. ;) I laughed so hard all night that my cheeks literally hurt! It was too fun. My camera card was full pretty quick so I couldn't get many pictures from that portion of the day, but I should be able to snag some from some other people.
The following day we had our neighborhood fall festival. Iris rode a pony for the first time! She took to it like she was born to ride! She held on to the saddle w/one hand and had the other in the air like she was ready for the rodeo. It was adorable. Then, she would lovingly and approvingly reach down and pat the pony's mane. My camera card was full from the previous day, but I got some video with my camera. This will be uploaded at a later date.

Castalian Springs and Spot, TN Weekend
We made it out to the country all weekend. First to visit our new baby cousin, Aedan, in Castalian Springs, TN! Iris loved him and wanted to give him lots of kisses. My heart melted as he talked to me in the sweetest baby voice ever. Iris was mesmerized by this little baby in my arms. He is such a sweetheart. Thanks to Curt and Danielle & Jason and Amanda for having us in your lovely homes. Iris had such a blast. She even had her first Oreo experience at Curt and Danielle's! And she got to give lots of sugar to Amanda's sweet (and very tolerant) cat and got to chase Danielle's cat into a corner. She also coined the term Meow-mi as way to refer to the cats. So adorable.
Then, on Sunday, we were off in the opposite direction heading for Spot, TN. It was a beautiful, but cold day that we got to spend with my Dad's side of the family. I, unfortunately, forgot the battery to my camera so I only have one phone photo. Thus, more to come later once I get my hands on Mom's camera. Iris loved the wagon rides and playing with her cousins. Thanks Eliza, Katherine, Jasmine, and Gracie for showing her so much love and such a good time. She spent lots of time playing ball, riding in the old radio flyer wagon, and playing the piano. She was in heaven!
Iris passed out on the trail walk. Too much fun conked her out.

I walked in to Gamma and Pops house after a long day at work to find Iris taking her first steps!!! The only thing I had nearby was my phone. Thus, I captured the moment as best I could. She was so proud and I was such a proud Mommy!!!

IRIS TURNS 1
Iris' first birthday party was such a blast. We had burgers and dogs, hula hoops and bubbles, and lots of laughter. It was so special spending it with our family and friends. We are so blessed.
Well her week of turning one included many milestones. She learned how to drink out of a straw. She took her first two steps with her Daddy and how special it was that he was home for that moment. She went to D.C. She toured the Capital and got lots of smiles and thumbs up from Congressmen passing by. She road her first subway train and to my horror pressed the Emergency button on the train that I did not see behind me. You should have seen the lady's eyes sitting beside me. They were as wide as could be! My mind began to race about what was about to happen. In a split second I could foresee the packed train coming to an abrupt halt and men w/guns rushing on. In actuality, and to my embarrassment, someone came over the loud speaker and asked me what my emergency was. Of course, everyone turned to see who had an emergency. I was the goob that had to say, "Sorry, My kid pushed the button. No emergency."
It was an action packed week to say the least. Mike was able to take a leave and come up with Jen, Jake, and Jacqueline to stay with us before he went overseas. We were thrilled to see them. Then, after the Sounds game on Friday night, Spanky and Grandma Bev walked through our door. What a great surprise! They were all able to be there for Iris' first birthday party. How special. In one week Iris got to see all of her grandparents and great-grandparents. What a lucky girl. Her party was Saturday and then we took her on her first trip to the zoo on Tuesday. She loved the clouded leopard. It definitely got the biggest reaction from her. On Wednesday, her actual birthday, she went to the Dr and got her 1 year check up. She is 22 lbs 4 oz and 30" long. Thursday, we left for Washington, D.C. We had such a blast. It was great spending an entire week as a family. Life is good!

Grandpa Tough, Nanny, and Mimi come to visit...
While Grandpa Tough and Mimi were hard at work in the heat putting together Iris 1st birthday gift, Nanny was hard at work playing solitaire. :)
Iris is so lucky...She got a toy puppy that barks and moves when touched from Grandpa and Nanny. She got this AWESOME radio flyer wagon from her Mimi and Papa. While her Mimi was strolling her along in the wagon Iris kept making this very low vroooooom sound. She was so enthralled. Lol! Thanks everyone!!!

11 month old Iris update
The girl LOVES to shop!
Here is a picture of her checking out some hip sunglasses at Janie and Jack.
Also, She has become obsessed with Hats. She says, "hat, hat, hat," all day long!
Here is the picture of her wearing my hat. She would not eat until I put it on her head!
She also says, "nooooooooo." She really draws it out like that. It sounds so funny.
The other morning I heard her pressing the buttons on her sound machine. I managed to slowly get my tired self out of bed. When I arrived in her room she put the biggest smile on my face. She was stretching her arms through the railing as far as she could w/her face all smooshed up against the rails. She started pushing the button on the machine after she had pulled all of the books out of her basket and into her crib. She had been entertaining herself in there for a good while. She had the biggest grin on her face when I walked in. I've never been a morning person, but it sure helps when you see your child's big grin b/c they are happy to see you.
Finally, how many kids are cool enough to make it to happy hour with all of your work buddies? LOL! She was just chillin at the end of the table in her high chair. She was by far the youngest person in there. She was hamming it up with everyone in there. We all had a blast feeding her all kinds of things that she has never had before and surprisingly she loved it all. This includes dill pickles dipped in mustard. I later learned this was one of D.J.'s favorite snacks when he was little. Ewe! :)

Tigertown
Blessed again!!! D.J. made it to Tigertown and we got to spend some quality time with the fam and friends. Iris and I got to share our first Major League Game Experience together! Thanks so much to the Leitz and Rambows for Hosting the cookouts!!! Everything was soooo delicious and soooo much fun. And a big THANKS to Macy for letting us break out the brand new pack and play for Iris' nap. :) Hope to see you all again very soon! Iris and I had a blast in D-TOWN! Due to the pure exhaustion of non-stop partying Iris fell asleep during the fireworks! How does that happen? LOL!
